New Orleans Jazz Empty New Orleans Jazz

I went to New Orleans in 2010, and in every store there was jazz music playing. Some of it I really loved, and it sounds totally different to me than any other jazz I've ever heard, but I have no idea what it was, who sang it, etc. Not a clue. Does anyone know anything about this particular style of jazz?
